GCSE Latin Future Tenses (Beta)

There are two ways in Latin of showing the future tense.

Generally, first and second conjugation verbs go: portābō, portābis, portābit, portābimus, portābitis, portābunt.

Generally, third and fourth conjugation (and mixed conjugation) verbs go: dīcam, dīcēs, dīcet, dīcēmus, dīcētis, dīcent.

Remember that third and fourth conjugation futures (third conjugation in particular) are almost identical to second conjugation presents.

To know its future tense without guessing, you need to learn the principal parts of every verb – e.g. portō, portāre, portāvī, portātum. You can then know how the future is formed by knowing the form of the infinitive.

There are some irregular futures, but we focus here on regular futures.
