Notes You make this tense by adding the personal ending to the root and connecting vowel – nothing else You make this tense by adding the tense marker -bā- inside the verb – notice that the “I” part needs a few other changes The above shows only 50 per cent of the verbs, but these go -bō -bis -bit -bimus -bitis -bunt. Look out for the unexpected -u- in the “they” part This works with 50 per cent of the verbs. The others do the perfect in a different way. But look out for the -v- tense marker, also for the changes to the personal ending in the “I” and “you (s)” parts You make these tense by taking whatever comes at the beginning of the perfect, and adding to the end the imperfect tense of “sum”
Latin verbs are modular. You make them by combining these elements:
portāmus
Root – the basic meaning of the verb: here, port gives you the sense of carrying
Connecting vowel – adds nothing to the meaning, but makes the word sound prettier
Tense marker – tells you when the verb happens
Personal ending – tells you who is doing the verb
